Project Title : Assessing Aboveground Carbon Dynamics, Vegetation Profiling, and Biodiversity Recovery in Fragmented Forests within Palm Oil Landscapes of Sapong Estate

My name is Anastasia Anak Jimmy, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, which I completed in 2023. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science (Forestry), focusing on the relationships between forest structure, biodiversity, and carbon storage. My research interests revolve around forest carbon stock and carbon sequestration, particularly in understanding how forest recovery and structural variations influence carbon dynamics.
My current research project, titled “Assessing Aboveground Carbon Dynamics, Vegetation Profiling, and Biodiversity Recovery in Fragmented Forests within Palm Oil Landscapes of Sapong Estate,” aims to examine how forest canopy conditions and vegetation characteristics contribute to carbon accumulation during forest regeneration. To achieve this, permanent plots have been established in Sapong Estate Forest, where essential data are collected, including tree species identification, diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height, and canopy openness using a densiometer. Additionally, vegetation profiling is conducted to evaluate forest structure, and biodiversity recovery is analyzed to assess ecological progress. Through this study, I aim to contribute valuable insights toward sustainable forest management and climate change mitigation efforts.
